Hello, my name is Keith Marley. In this article, I am basically going to give you the low-down on the Ooma phone system. The focus will be on the Ooma Telo phone home phone service. I spent time researching the VoIP phone system so that I can reveal to you the truth about it. By the end of this article, you’ll know everything you need to know in order to determine whether the Ooma phone system is right for you or not.
So, here it is…
What Is The Ooma Phone System?
Basically, Ooma provides free home phone service. What you do is plug in your internet and existing home phone into Ooma and this will enable you to call anywhere in the U.S for free. You still will pay for applicable taxes and fees – approximately $3.50 per month, but the cost will be far less than what you currently pay for a landline phone. You can also make international calls for next to nothing.
Ooma is a standalone device that does not require a computer. There is no software to install and no need for a headset. Basically, Ooma replaces your current phone service and delivers clear, landline quality calling over your existing phone and high-speed internet connection. This will save you from the hassle of installing anything on your computer as well as from having to leave your computer on to make and receive phone calls. This alone could save you up to $20 per month in energy costs.
Is Ooma Difficult to Install?
It is not difficult to install. Most customers are up and dialing withing 15 minutes. You can use your existing home phone numbers just like always, only now you won’t have to worry about a phone bill.
What About Phone Numbers?
When you register your Ooma device online, you will be allowed to select a new phone number in any area code in the U.S (except Alaska). If you choose to keep your current phone number, in most cases, Ooma can transfer your existing phone number for a one time fee of $39.99 or get free porting when you purchase a yearly subscription to Ooma Premier.
Note: The porting can take up to three weeks and you must keep your current phone service until the transfer is complete.
The Ooma Telo is the latest model of Ooma. Based on what I have read, the Ooma Telo looks better and has second generation internals. The Telo does not offer additional features; such as, caller Id. This comes with the Premier service, which will cost about $9.99 per month or $119.99 per year.

Is there a maximum amount of minuters per month?
Like many other “unlimited services”; such as, cell phone data plans and other VoIP phone systems, there is a limit of 5000 minutes per month (for outbound calls only).
Does It Support 911 Calls?
It does support 911 calls. When you register, Ooma will collect your address so that when you dial 911, your address will be sent to emergency response personnel.
Can You Make Calls For Free Anywhere In The U.S.?
Ooma does allow you to make local and long distance calls within the U.S. for free. There are a few exceptions: Ooma does not support 900 numbers and phone chat services. Directory assistance (411) calls will be charged to your prepaid calling account and costs 0.99 per call. You pay only applicable taxes and fees (approx. $3.50 per month)
Can The Ooma Phone System Be Used Internationally?
The Ooma phone system can be used anywhere there is a high-speed internet connection. Regardless of where you use it, calls to the U.S will be free and calls outside the U.S will be subject to low-coast international reates. If you plan on using the Ooma device overseas, be sure to use a phone that meets U.S. standards. Also, be aware that the power supply that comes with the Ooma Hub is built for the U.S. power specifications. And, if you choose to install and use the Ooma system outside the U.S., you will be solely responsible for compliance with international laws and subject to all associated fees, taxes, tariffs, and legal penalties.
Do I Need A Headset or A Special Phone?
Ooma works with your existing corded or cordless home phones. Use your phone exactly as you did before, only now you don’t have to worry about outrageous phone bills.

I actually found many positive feedback from people; more than I had expected. Here is what some had to say:
There were similar reviews. The consensus of the users seems to be that while this is not a miracle product, the Ooma device does have many great features and benefits.
Conclusion:
Because of the savings you receive when using the Ooma phone system, many businesses will also benefit.
